Are you attracting the opposite of what you want?

by

We do it all the time without realizing it. Something appears in our lives that we don't like. Actually thousands of things appear in our lives every day, but it's the things that we don't like that come to our attention first. The reason for this is that they make us feel uncomfortable. And it's human instinct to avoid these things. But in order to avoid them, we first need to acknowledge their presence.

I have discovered in my work with affirmations that people often have difficulty deciding what to affirm for. My simple solution to this is to have them write out a list of all the things they don't like in or about their lives, and then turn these things around into positive affirmations. The reason this works well is because it is easier for us to think of the things we don't want than it is to think of what we want. What we don't want feels uncomfortable. What we do want may be unknown to our experience, so it doesn't really generate strong emotions yet.

Understanding all this makes it easier for us to see why our daily focus is often directed towards negative things. We are constantly reminding ourselves of the things we don't want in our lives. But the more we focus on these things, the more power we give them, because what we focus on, we attract.

Here's the problem. Most people are thinking about what they don't want, and they're wondering why it shows up over and over again.

John Assaraf

This has been said so many times in so many ways that it shouldn't need repeating. But it does. It is the main reason that the Law of Attraction does not work for many people. Actually, I need to rephrase that. The Law of Attraction ALWAYS works - all the time - for all people. It just looks like it's not working for many because they are focusing on what they don't want, and that's just what they attract more of.

You are a living magnet. You attract into your life whatever you think about most. Your predominant thoughts manifest in your life. It's as simple as that.

You cannot attract abundance if you are focused on lack. You cannot attract health if you are focused on illness. You cannot attract happiness if you are focused on those things that make you unhappy. You attract what you think about.

If something you want is slow to come to you, it can be for only one reason. You are spending more time focused upon its absence than you are about its presence.

Abraham-Hicks

As long as you are focusing on 'what is', you can't possibly attract 'what might be'. Focus on your dreams. Focus on what you WANT in your life. Get your eyes, words and thoughts off 'what-is', and place them solely on what you want to see more of in your life.

Use your imagination. Visualize your perfect life. Put yourself in the picture. Affirm that you already have it. Feel the positive emotions that living your dream generates. Be thankful for your ability to bring this into your life. Do all these things again and again until the dream is so real that it's manifestation is the next logical step. That is how to use the Law of Attraction.

It's not going to be easy. Our natural inclination is to notice those things that we don't like, so that we can avoid them in the future. The problem is, by noticing them and giving them thought, they will become our future. We need to be vigilant. We need to monitor our thoughts - our focus - at all times. We need to focus on the dream!

Complaining is Negative Affirming

Don't attract what you don't want

by

Complaining is a very potent form of negative affirming, and as far as the Law of Attraction is concerned, a dangerous habit.

Complaining is combining negative affirmation with negative emotions. It is also very often accompanied with negative visualizations - as we replay in our minds the negatives we are complaining about. To make matters worse, most complaining is done out loud, giving it even more power.

From a purely Law-of-Attraction perspective, when you complain you are attracting into your life more of whatever you are complaining about. From the perspective of your subconscious mind, complaining puts emphasis on something, which your mind takes as meaning it's important to you, and therefore it should try to create more of it in your life.

A few examples:

"How's your arthritis?"
"Worse than ever!"
(Attraction focus: arthritis will not improve - Subconscious focus: make it worse)

"How's the new job?"
"Stressful!"
(Attraction focus: more stress at work - Subconscious focus: up the stress levels)

"How are the kids?"
"Driving me crazy!"
(Attraction focus: misbehaving children - Subconscious focus: up the stress levels)

"What's new?"
"Same old..."
(Attraction focus: more of the same - Subconscious focus: avoid anything new)

Remember, what you continually talk about, comes about.

Jack Canfield

What you focus on, what you talk about with emotion, what you visualize ... these are the things that you are attracting more of in your life. It may be a hard pill to swallow, but when you complain about the things in your life, you are actually creating a life which will continually give you reasons to complain.

Do yourself a favor. Focus on what you want, not on what you don't want.
