All goals require change!

by

All new goals require new habits. This is a fact that everyone needs to address the minute they set a new goal for themselves. Whether the new habit is just the repeated application of already mastered skills, or the need to develop brand-new routines and behaviors, all goals will require a new way of doing things if they are to be realized. Let's face it... if they didn't, we would be able to reach our goals without changing anything.

We need to sit down, right at the beginning, and write down all the new habits we will need to make our goal a reality. Habits don't happen overnight. To create a habit you need to faithfully repeat the action every day for at least 30-45 days. This is how long it usually takes for a habit to become a fixed routine.

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.

Whether your goal is to achieve your ideal weight, write a book, or increase your income, there will be several new habits that will play a key part in the process. Start by making a list of everything you can think of that should, ideally, be done on a daily basis. To reach your ideal weight, you will probably need to prepare different meals, log your calorie intake, exercise daily, etc. These are all new habits that need to be created and repeated in order to reach your goal.

These daily goals are called process goals. There may be other, one-off activities that you will need to add to your action plan, such as buying a treadmill or new running shoes, choosing which gym you want to join, or getting the bike out of the garage and serviced for daily use. But it will be your process goals that get you from where you are, to where you want to be.

And the more daily process goals you can turn into daily habits, the faster you will achieve your goal!
