The step that most people forget when affirming ...
by Che Garman
Affirmations are words, nothing more. They represent the new beliefs we want to instill in our minds in order to change our lives. They are the new thinking directives we give our subconscious mind. By repeating them daily, we reinforce these directives until eventually they become core beliefs. Affirmations are a product of our conscious mind. When we affirm, we are using our conscious thoughts to influence our subconscious.
After affirming what we want, we visualize the details. This is where we begin to communicate with the subconscious directly, because mental pictures are the language of the subconscious mind. It also understands emotions. By combining positive words (affirmations) with positive mental images (visualization), we are able to generate positive emotions. Now our subconscious mind has all the information it needs. Almost.
Your subconscious mind will start to adjust your core beliefs to match your desired outcomes, but it's a lengthy process. This is why we must consciously repeat the process. And repeat, and repeat. Core beliefs can't be changed overnight. By repeating the process daily, we are telling are subconscious mind that we are serious about our goals - that we are committed to change. And that we are not going to give in until we get there.
Now comes the part that most people forget. How do we show our commitment to anything? How do we make changes in our life? We follow through with action! We can sit and affirm, visualize, and emotionalize all day long. But until we actually support this with action, nothing will change.
Albert Einstein
The subconscious mind has control over much of our behavior. It controls our habits. But habits are created through daily repetition. Like learning to tie your shoelaces. In the beginning, you had to practice. And eventually the subconscious mind figured out what was involved and was able to hard-wire the process. Now it ties our shoelaces for us, so to speak. It controls the actions so we don't have to consciously think about it every time we put on our shoes. But if we never took action in the first place, our subconscious minds would not know what to do.
ALL affirmations require follow-through action. It is the only way to create positive change. If there is no action, there is no change. So many people miss this point. They see affirmations as some sort of magic pill, that, if taken daily will solve all their problems. But affirmations are just words. Alone they are powerless to change our lives.
Affirm. Visualize. Emotionalize. ACT! The four steps to realizing your goals. But it is the last step that is key. Nothing happens until something moves!
